Empowering Dignity

Welcome Home Village, a transformative Supportive Housing Campus in the City of San Luis Obispo, is a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing homelessness. Developed by DignityMoves, this innovative project seamlessly integrates living spaces with essential services, providing dignified accessibility to regular housing and on-site behavioral health support. RPM is honored to serve as the Architect of Record (AOR) and Engineer of Record (EOR) for this vital initiative, developing the comprehensive site design and engineering.

Streamlining Prefabrication for Accelerated Timelines

Recognizing the urgency of this project, RPM is also engineering the prefabricated housing units provided by Azure through the HCD (Housing and Community Development) program. This proactive approach ensures that the modular units can be efficiently installed upon arrival, bypassing potential delays from local inspections and significantly accelerating the project timeline.

A Collaborative Vision for Supportive Housing

Welcome Home Village is a public-private partnership between DignityMoves and the City and County of San Luis Obispo, aiming to create 54 new units. This includes 14 interim supportive housing units and 40 permanent supportive housing units. Partnering with the experienced Good Samaritan Shelter, the Village will offer comprehensive supportive services, empowering unhoused community members to transition out of homelessness and into stable living environments.

A Holistic Approach to Resident Well-being

The thoughtfully designed campus prioritizes resident comfort and well-being. All units will be fully electric, featuring built-in heating and air conditioning, beds, and storage. While interim housing residents will utilize shared bathrooms and dining facilities, permanent units will offer private bathrooms and kitchenettes.

Communal spaces will further foster a sense of community and provide essential resources, including laundry facilities, open space with a pet relief area, work-study areas, and private offices for meetings with case managers and service providers.

Good Samaritan Shelter: Decades of Trauma-Informed Care

With nearly 30 years of experience, Good Samaritan Shelter brings an exceptional reputation for providing trauma-informed care and tailored services. Their expertise and collaborations with other organizations ensure that residents receive comprehensive support, addressing the root causes of their homelessness through meals, case management, and health support.

Individualized Support for Lasting Change

Recognizing the unique circumstances of each resident, Welcome Home Village will provide individualized case plans tailored to their specific paths toward stable housing. These plans will encompass a range of crucial services, including:

  • Individualized case management

  • Access to basic medical care

  • Mental health assessments

  • Substance abuse treatment services

  • Wellness activities

  • Education and self-improvement opportunities

  • Social-emotional skill building

  • Job readiness training

  • Preparation for permanent housing placement

  • Transportation for off-site appointments with medical professionals, courts, and other specialists.

Prioritizing Outreach and Community Restoration

Welcome Home Village will prioritize placement for individuals currently residing in the Bob Jones Bike Trail Encampment Corridor. This project is a key component of the Bob Jones Bike Trail Encampment Resolution Project, which includes intentional outreach to connect people with the Village program and the restoration of the bike trail and nearby creek beds.

The City of San Luis Obispo’s Homelessness Response Team has been actively engaged in outreach efforts since 2015. These efforts will be significantly expanded before the completion of Welcome Home Village to ensure a smooth transition for those most in need.

RPM is proud to contribute our expertise to this vital project, working alongside DignityMoves, the City and County of San Luis Obispo, and Good Samaritan Shelter to create a welcoming and supportive environment that empowers individuals to rebuild their lives and transition out of homelessness.
