From Strip Mall to Sanctuary
Bay Hills Community Church in Richmond, CA, had a clear vision: to move from their leased strip mall space to a dedicated, state-of-the-art facility tailored to their growing congregation across the highway. With a desire for increased seating capacity, expanded classroom space, and enhanced fellowship areas, a Sprung Structure emerged as an ideal, cost-effective solution capable of meeting their spatial needs while optimizing their budget. The significant cost savings offered by the Sprung Structure also enabled the church to maximize their footprint by utilizing the high vaulted ceilings for vertical expansion.
Strategic Phased Development Managed by RPM
RPM took the helm in managing the concept and design development for this significant project. Our strategic approach involved utilizing the back half of the church's property for the new construction. This thoughtful phasing allowed the congregation to continue operating seamlessly in their existing on-site facility throughout the construction process. Once the new Sprung Structure is complete and operational, the original building will be demolished to make way for the larger parking lot necessary to accommodate the expanded congregation.
Community-Centric Design and Engagement
Recognizing the importance of community relations, RPM prioritized neighborly engagement. Before submitting the planning application, we organized several neighborhood meetings to gather valuable input from surrounding residents. This proactive approach ensured that the design and intended use of the new facility were well-received by the community. Through a collaborative design committee review process, our planning application was ultimately approved with minimal revisions to our original design – a testament to the effectiveness of community engagement.
A Welcoming Space for Growth and Connection
The interior design of the new facility will create a vibrant and welcoming environment for the Bay Hills community. Plans include large, open lobby spaces fostering fellowship, dedicated classrooms for all ages, and a structural mezzanine system to efficiently accommodate the church's expanded square footage requirements.
